January Tour 2008
Journal Entry #3
Day 4, Prague, to Maribor, via Vienna
January 11, 2008
Today saw the delegation pull out of Prague for what should have been a 4-5
hour drive to Vienna. Due to some weak stomachs the trip comprised no less
than 7 stops, and probably should have had an eighth stop (those of you on
that bus know what I mean). Needless to say that drive took a bit longer
than expected.
We pulled into the Museum Quarter to drop the team off for a quick afternoon
of sightseeing and were faced with a freezing cold Vienna day. Welcome to
winter in Europe. We decided to cut the stop down to just two and a half
hours; hardly enough time to really see Vienna, one of Europe¹s great
cities, but enough to at least get a feel for it and force some lunch down.
Hopefully everyone made it into the Stefans Dom (cathedral) and had some
time to wander the streets around the Graben and Hofburg.
From Vienna it was another 3 hours to Maribor, and we had a big Serbian meal
ready for the girls immediately upon arrival. Meat, meat and more meat (with
some great Serbian beans, bread, salad, and veggies as well) but not many
big eaters. The bus ride just took too much out of everyone and we were a
team of zombies. Straight to bed tonight lots of volleyball tomorrow.
