5. RULES OF THE GAME

5.1          General principle: The matches in the European Global Challenge are played according to the Rules of the game of FIVB 2005-14.

5.2          Special rules: Group play will be 3 sets to 25 points for each match (not 2 out of 3) . Championship rounds will be 3 out of 5 sets in the winners bracket and 2 out of 3 sets in the consolation braket.

5.3          Special rules: In order to faciliate playing time, the U17 tournament will be allowed a total number of 12 subsitutions per set with unlimited entries. Note the U22 tournament will follow standard subsitution rules of 6 total subs and 1 entry.

6. COMPETITION SYSTEM

6.1          USA vs. European Challenge (Round One)

The Brijuni Tournament (U22) will consist of 12 teams. Six (6) European teams and six (6) USA teams. The Istra Tournament (U17) will consist of 14 teams. Seven (7) European, seven (7) USA teams .

The USA vs. European Challenge is designed to match up teams from one side of the Atlantic with teams from the other side of the Atlantic. Each team in both divisions will play three randomly selected opponents in the USA vs. European Challenge. All matches will be played 3 sets to 25 points. (not best 2 of 3 sets)

6.2         Challenge Matches and Championship Tournament: (Round two)

Brijuni Division: (u22) The top 2 USA teams and the top 2 European teams in the Brijuni (u22) division will automatically qualify for the 8 team Championships Tournament. The remaining 8 teams will play USA vs. European Challenge Matches to determine the final 4 spots in the 8 team Championship Tournament. The four teams not in the Championship Tournament will play a round robin tournament to determine positons 9-12. These teams will be re-seeded after the Challenge Matches.

Istra Division: (u17) The top USA and European team will automatically qualify for the 8 team Championship tournament. The remaining 12 teams play USA vs. European Challenge matches to determine the final 6 teams in the Championship tournament. The six teams teams not in the Championship bracket will play a six team tournament to determine positions 9-14. They will be re-seeded 1 – 6 after the Challenge matches.

All teams are guaranteed six total matches in the tournament.

7. OFFICIAL RATIFICATION OF MATCHES

Seeding in the Brijuni and Istra Divisions: (round one) Each set won counts as one point. There are a possible of 9 total points for each team in round one. If after 9 total sets two or more teams are tied with the same number of points, the ratio of points scored to points against will determine the highest seed.

The Championship Tournament is played best 3 of 5 in the winners bracket. The Consolation bracket is best 2 of 3 sets with the 3rd set to 15 points if needed.

8. Officials

Pool play matches and the Consolation Tournament in the Championship Tournament will have one up official and one scorekeeper. All Championship Matches will have one up official, one down official and one scorekeeper. The Championship Final Match in both divisions will also have line judges.

 Special Notes:

 *Teams must arrange eating times with the hotel if they fall outside normal eating hours.

*Water will NOT be provided at the tournament.

*We want to create a special championship day at Dom Sportova so we ask all teams to be at both the u17 and   u22 Championships. We will have a market day at the gym selling Tee-Shirts and specialized Croatian products.

*All teams should be in matching shirts for Opening Ceremonies.

*Players should bring club and National Team shirts for exchanging.

*The closing party will be held at the Hotel Pool starting at 23hr with one of Slovenia’s top bands, 6pack. The celebration will go until 1am. Sorry for the noise to you sleepers.

*Towels; The hotel will charge for missing towels, so make sure athletes return towels.

*First team listed is light color, the second team listed is dark color.

*Please make sure you have a flag from your country for Opening Ceremonies and the matches.

 Team Information

  • Rosters need to be emailed to bringitusacory@aol.com by July 4, 2014. For each player we need the players name, height, position, and date of birth and current club.
  • Uniforms: You will need one set of light uniforms and one set of dark uniforms. Remember that numbers cannot be higher than 18.
  • A rooming list needs to be turned in no later than July 4, 2014. One week before the start of the tournament I will give you specific details on the rooming list. Please email them to bringitusacory@aol.com
  • Exchange gifts: Please bring something for net exchanges with each team. Please have all your players bring tee-shirts for exchanges.
  • Tournament Information: One week prior to your departure I will provide you with all the necessary information for the tournament. Exact details will not be worked out until that time. At the moment the following teams are to coming to the Global Challenge:

  • Tournament results will be updated each night along with journal entries on the Bring It USA site at http://bringitusa.com/gc14/
  • The Hotel Pula has wireless Internet access, however they charge for internet.
  • Opening Ceremonies: The ceremonies will be held in the town square of Pula on the evening of July 13, 2014 at 9 pm. It will be hot, so all we ask is that teams have on matching shirts. It is fine to wear shorts. We ask that each team bring a flag from their country.
  • Plan to arrive at the Hotel Pula before 3 pm if possible. All teams start with lunch on the 13th and end with breakfast on the 18th.
  • Again, exact details for the tournament will come one week before the tournament.
  • Age limits. In general the age requirements for the Global Challenge are 22 and under and U17 and under.
