When\u00a0Tito (Josip Broz) united the six Yugoslav republics\u00a0<span class=\"s1\">to form the\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s1\">Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, the landscape of Maribor was a battleground for\u00a0freedom.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Although Tito&#8217;s death in 1980 brought about more political tension and economic crisis, Slovenia had already re-positioned itself as\u00a0one of the\u00a0most economically advanced former Yugoslav republics. A 10-day war in 1991 gave birth to the modern day nation of Slovenia.
