Alabama State University Head Women’s Volleyball Coach

Penny Lucas-White

Penny Lucas-White is a seasoned volleyball coach and former national team player, currently serving as the head coach of the Alabama State University women’s volleyball team. She completed her 14th season at the helm in 2024–25, marking a milestone of 1,000 matches coached. Under her leadership, the Lady Hornets have secured six Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) tournament championships and achieved perfect 18–0 conference records in 2017 and 2018. As recently as 2023, Lucas-White posted another undefeated season of 16–0. She has also served as a coach representative on the USA Volleyball Board of Directors and as a Finance Leader on the Board of Directors for WeCOACH, an organization dedicated to advancing women in coaching. Her coaching career spans over three decades, including previous head coaching positions at the U.S. Air Force Academy and the University of Memphis. As a player, she earned All-SEC honors at LSU and competed professionally in the U.S., Italy, and Germany, as well as with the U.S. Women’s National Team in the mid-1980s. Lucas-White holds an MBA from the University of Phoenix and has been recognized for her contributions to the sport and community.
