Ditsala International Cup
Historically Black Colleges and Universities
TEAM HBCUs
Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) have played a pivotal role in the development and success of the Ditsala International Cup. The foundation was laid in 2018 when Howard University made a groundbreaking trip to Botswana and Zimbabwe, inspiring the vision for what would become the Ditsala International Cup.
In 2024, Howard University returned to Botswana to compete in the inaugural Ditsala International Tournament and emerged as the tournament champions, solidifying their legacy and leadership.
Building on that momentum, the 2025 tournament featured a mixed team comprised of athletes from eight HBCU institutions. The team was guided by three head coaches, one assistant coach, and one athletic director, whose collaborative efforts led Team HBCU to another championship victory.
Looking ahead to 2027, the Ditsala International Cup is excited to make history by welcoming an HBCU women’s team and, for the first time, an HBCU men’s team. A Team BIP women’s team will also return, creating an exciting three-team U.S. presence and expanding opportunities for collegiate athletes and coaches to compete internationally, experience Botswana, build lasting connections, and continue the mission to “Grow the Game.”

Team BIP will return to the Ditsala International Cup in 2027 with one women’s team, bringing together a diverse group of collegiate volleyball players and coaches from across the United States.
United by a shared passion for volleyball, cultural exchange, and international travel, the 2027 Team BIP delegation will feature one team. The athletes will compete internationally while building connections in Botswana and supporting the mission to ‘Grow the Game’ globally.
