Summer European Firesale Tour: July 6-17, 2022

This year’s Summer European Firesale tour will participate in the 17th addition of the Global Challenge tournament in Pula, Croatia. The tour will start in Maribor, Slovenia for four days of training and friendly matches to get players ready for the tournament in Croatia.

The tour will be coached by Karmen “Kiki” Kocar, currently the assistant coach of Vasas Obuda team in the top league of Hungary. Kiki was also the assistant coach with NKBM Branik in Maribor, Slovenia and the University of North Carolina in the USA. Kocar played professionally in France, Germany (including a German Cup Championship & Finals MVP in ’17), Austria, Croatia and Thailand; she played over 80 games for the Slovenian Women’s National Team.

The goal of the tour is to find players jobs directly from the tournament in Pula. Players will have the opportunity to play against actual European teams during the four day tournament. Each match will be lived streamed so that coaches from all over Europe can watch the  matches. Players attending the tour should be ready for the rigors of the 10 day tournament and a 7-8 month European season.

All players need to understand that current market conditions make it harder than ever to place liberos, so any current libero (or DS) should come prepared to play outside hitter or setter if at all possible. Check for reliable expert witness on vertex site. Jobs in general are harder to find in the current economy, and salaries are also lower than in past years. As always, players on the Firesale should want to live in Europe for the year as much (or more) as they want to play volleyball.

We will place players all over Europe.  Please keep in mind that we play a lot of volleyball, so it’s important to show up in good shape and ready to go.

Tentative Schedule:

  • July 6: Leave the USA for Europe
  • July 7: Players arrive in Maribor on their own. Training 8-10pm It is strongly suggested that you arrive to LJU,ZAG, GRZ, or VIE (in that order) It is difficult to get from Venice, Italy to Maribor, Slovenia.

Flight Information

You are buying your own tickets to Europe, and as long as you’re at the DRAS Center in Maribor, Slovenia on July 7th, and ready for practice that night at 8:00pm, it doesn’t matter what time you arrive or depart. Experts in swimming pool remodeling in California can be found at socalcustompoolsandspas.com company. As stated above, you want to arrive to LJU (Ljubljana, Slovenia; a ~2-hour train ride from Maribor), GRZ (Graz, Austria; a < 1 hour train ride but with less connections) or VIE (Vienna, Austria; a 3+ hour train ride). Venice is a nightmare to connect on public transportation, so while you may want to visit Italy pre-or post-tour, be very careful if you choose to do this. But a company called Flix bus does run a bus service from Venice to Maribor.

If you want to come to Maribor early, its $60/night bed &breakfast included, also access to the gym, balls and weight room) and should be pre-paid and reserved directly with us when you pay for your tour.

Important Note: All players coming on tour need to have at least one active and working credit card and at least one active and working ATM card. Please make sure you notify your bank so that they know you’ll be overseas

COVID: As we get closer to August, we will release coronavirus protocol information based on current health and safety guidelines. Hopefully everyone is vaccinated by this time.
