What is it?

The January Exposure Tour started in 2000 with the specific purpose of educating players on European volleyball and placing them on professional teams to play.  The goal is to get players as much as exposure to European coaches, managers and scouts as possible while touring beautiful cities in Europe.  We typically find teams for most players on the tour that come to stay, and also help players learn about Europe and European volleyball so that they’re ready to come back and play in August for the following season.  It has proven, year after year, to be the best way to find a team in Europe for the second half of the season from January to March – May depending on how your team finishes in playoffs. To increase exposure for players we LiveStream matches, but the educational component of being in Europe on tour shouldn’t be underrated.

Where can I expect to get placed off the January Exposure tour?

We place players all over Europe, not only in the cities and countries that we visit. Its important to note that we have coaches and managers coming from various countries to watch and hire players starting on the first day, so players need to show up in good shape and ready to go.  We also send players directly from the tour to shorter duration Pro Leagues in places like Indonesia (dates change annually), South America (Spring Season), Puerto Rico (January to April or May), and sometimes the Arab Countries like UAE (Dubai and Abu Dhabi) as well.

Can I view past January Exposure tours?

For daily player journals, photos and videos from past January Exposure tours check these tour journals from 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013.

When and where is it?

This year’s January Exposure Tour will take place January 6th – 17th, 2015. This year’s January Tour will again start in Italy; the heart of European volleyball. We’ll start with a “combine” in Milan with plenty of visiting coaches, and then head off to tour and play from there. We’ll spend some time traveling through the north of this wonderful country, visit Venice, and then stay in Rovinj, Croatia (right on the coast) and Maribor, Slovenia (on the bottom of a World Cup ski mountain) prior to ending in Budapest, Hungary.

See the day by day itinerary below:

  • January 6 Leave the USA for Milan (MXP), Italy
  • January 7 Arrive and get to hotel in Milan on your own (taxi or public transport)
  • January 7-10 Milan, Italy
  • January 10-12 Rovinj, Croatia
  • January 12-15 Maribor, Slovenia (During which players will have a day trip to Venice, Italy)
  • January 15-17 Budapest, Hungary
  • January 17 Depart from Budapest (BUD) and return home to USA the same day

What is the price?

The cost of the tour is $1750 + airfare.  The tour will start in Milan (MXP) and finish in Budapest (BUD).

What’s included?

The price includes daily breakfast and dinner, all hotels, ground transportation, volleyball activities and exposure to professional club scouts, coaches and mangers. Players really only need spending money for daily lunches, phone calls, souvenirs, and “going out” if they so choose. A $250 USD non-refundable deposit is due to reserve a spot for this tour.

Travel Details:

You are buying your own tickets to Europe, and as long as you’re in Milan on the 7th, and leave from Budapest on the 17th, it doesn’t matter what time you arrive or depart. Usually a round trip ticket to Europe is the same price (or cheaper) than a one-way, and due to visa restrictions and immigration issues in Europe, it often causes problems to try and come with a one-way ticket (or a ticket that has a return for more than 90 after arrival). Suggestion: Either come on a mileage ticket (if you have a parent or friend with tons of airline miles) because its free to change and usable for a full year, or come on the cheapest possible round trip with a return from Budapest on January 17 as planned, knowing that you might “eat” the return if you’re coming to “stay and play” and find a team. Of course in this case the team will have to fly you home on a new ticket at the end of the season, but having a “mileage ticket” (if possible) makes everything easiest. Make SURE you carry-on all of your volleyball equipment and enough clothes to get through 3-4 days if you’re the lucky one to lose your bag. It happens every year to 2-3 people, so make sure you have enough in your carry on to survive.
